She hit an iceburg on the starboard side and sank north of Newfoundland April 15, 1912, 2:20 a.m. There were only enough life boats for half of the people on board, meaning that most of the first class ticket holders survived. Water filled the first 5 compartments on E deck, and spread throughout the immense ship. Once there was too much pressure on the back end of the vessel, it cracked in two, leaving the front end bobbing in the water.
